20+ Years Serving Wood Dale | All Major | Insurance Accepted | New Patients Welcome
We emphasize the importance of periodontal care in preventing gum disease for our patients. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. At our dental office, we will gently evaluate gums and overall oral health, and if necessary, will make recommendations for treatment.
Periodontal (gum) disease begins when bacteria build up on your teeth and gums, creating a sticky film called plaque. If not removed through regular care, plaque hardens into tartar, which can only be removed by a professional. Left untreated, this leads to gingivitis and, eventually, periodontitis, where deep pockets form, bone is lost, and teeth become loose.

When gum disease progresses beyond the reach of a standard cleaning, we utilize specialized techniques and technology to stop the infection and promote healing.
Periodontal (Gum) Disease Therapy
Early detection is vital. We use digital diagnostics to monitor the health of your supporting bone and tissue.
- Pocket Depth Measurement: Checking for gaps between teeth and gums where bacteria hide.
- Digital X-Rays: Identifying bone loss that isn’t visible to the naked eye.
- Customized Care Plans: Every treatment is tailored to your gum health at its specific stage.
Advanced Laser Dentistry
We utilize state-of-the-art Biolase technology to provide a more comfortable, "drill-free" experience for our patients.
- Faster Healing: Lasers stimulate tissue regeneration for quicker recovery times.
- Reduced Bleeding: The laser cauterizes as it treats, minimizing bleeding and the need for sutures.
- Bacterial Control: Lasers effectively kill oral bacteria in deep pockets that traditional tools might miss.
- Less Anesthesia: Many laser procedures can be performed with little to no numbing required.

Very honest and helpful as well.Posted on Andrew ShortTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experience! Made me feel very comfortable!Posted on Candice GarciaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I love this place! My kids and I were both disappointed when our insurance changed and we we had to switch dentists. We recently changed plans again, and the first thing I did was call to see if we were able to switch back. My kids love Doctor Shah, this place is the only office that actually CLEANS my teeth when I come, as opposed to just rubbing the paste on them. And they never try to sell me unwanted/needed services!
What is the difference between gingivitis and periodontitis?
Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease, characterized by redness and swelling. It is reversible with professional cleaning. Periodontitis is the advanced stage where bone loss occurs and is managed through periodontal therapy to prevent further damage.
Is periodontal treatment painful?
No. We prioritize patient comfort. For scaling and root planing, we use local numbing if necessary. Our advanced laser therapy is specifically designed to be minimally invasive and often requires no anesthesia.
How often do I need "periodontal maintenance"?
Once gum disease is under control, patients typically transition to maintenance visits every 3 to 4 months. This allows us to monitor the pockets and ensure bacteria do not return to harmful levels.
Can gum disease be cured?
While advanced periodontitis cannot always be fully “reversed,” it can be successfully managed and halted. With proper in-office therapy and diligent at-home care (especially flossing), you can maintain a healthy, stable smile for a lifetime.
Can gum disease affect my heart?
Yes. Research shows a strong “mouth-body connection.” The bacteria that cause periodontal disease can enter your bloodstream, contributing to inflammation that is linked to heart disease, diabetes, respiratory issues, and even certain types of dementia. Treating your gums is a proactive step for your entire body’s health.
