How Sedation Works

A safe, step-by-step approach guided by a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist from start to finish.

1

Pre-Procedure Call

A nurse contacts you beforehand to review your child's medical history and go over all day-of instructions.

2

Flavored Inhalation

Your child breathes flavored anesthesia gas to gently fall asleep β€” no needles needed to start.

3

IV Maintenance

Once asleep, an IV is placed to keep your child comfortably sedated for the full procedure.

4

Complete Treatment

Your dentist completes all necessary dental work in one visit β€” eliminating multiple return appointments.

5

Quick Recovery

Most children are awake and ready to go home within 15–30 minutes and can eat right away.

Important Instructions

Following these guidelines carefully ensures your child's procedure goes smoothly and safely.

Fasting Requirements

6 hours before

No solid food, milk, or formula

3 hours before

Clear liquids only β€” water, juice, Jell-O, popsicles, Gatorade

3 hours before

Nothing by mouth at all in the final 3 hours

Safety Guidelines

  • Parents are not permitted in the treatment room during IV sedation
  • If your child becomes ill before the procedure, please call our office
  • Treatment time is an estimate and may change on the day
  • Bring another adult to help you if at all possible

After the Procedure

  • Your child can eat and drink right away β€” there is no numbness after the procedure
  • Recovery is typically 15–30 minutes before leaving the office
  • Balance and coordination may be affected for 1–4 hours after leaving
  • Once you leave, you are responsible for your child's safety

Billing Information

Transparent, straightforward pricing with multiple payment options available.

How Fees Work

Anesthesia fees are separate from your dental bill and are based on the length of the procedure. Fees are determined in advance so you can plan ahead. A deposit is collected at scheduling and full payment is required before the appointment.

Insurance

Many medical insurance companies do not cover anesthesia for office-based dental care. Our fees are generally lower than hospital co-pays and deductibles, allowing us to pass those savings directly to you.

Financing

CareCredit is available as a no-interest financing option for families who prefer to spread payments over time. Ask our team for details.
